Black-eyed Susan was a chance collaboration between Chris and Grace Cosgrove. Grace wrote the original poem, which did not include the chorus, and Chris fell in love with it. The result, which includes an alto recorder solo, is haunting in every way.

An example of small studio, eight-track work, Black-Eyed Susan was recorded/published in 1984, as one of two ballads on ANYONE'S REVOLUTION. Members of Chris' group, The Speckled Band, play on the song.
